Abstract
PURPOSE: A rubber composition with excellent braking ability on snow, ice and wet road, which is prepared by the addition of a terminally ether-modified diene polymer to a natural rubber or a diene synthetic rubber.
CONSTITUTION: A rubber composition for tire tread, prepared by adding 5W80pts. wt. of a terminally ether-modified diene polymer of MW500W100,000, having, as the backbone chain, a polybutadiene or a polyisoprene, or a copolymer thereof, of MW400W97,000, containing 70% or more of 1,4-bonds, to which 3W50wt%, based on the backbone chain, of an alkylene oxide (e.g., ethylene oxide) or a cyclic ether (e.g., oxetane), is added at the terminal to 100pts.wt. of a natural or diene synthetic rubber alone, or to a mixture thereof. The admixture of said terminallyether-modified diene polymer with the rubber composition, increases frictional resistance by reducing hardness of the composition at a low temperature and increasing contact surface area between ice and a rubber molecule, and, at the same time, modifies frictional resistance on wet road by said terminal portion.
