Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform accurate determination for sulfur by heating a metal sample in a hydrogen flow, extracting sulfur in the form of hydrogen sulfide, generating sulfur by burning the hydrogen sulfide together with hydrogen gas and detecting and determining the sulfur.
CONSTITUTION: A metal sample is inserted into a heating furnace 5 and sulfur in the sample is extracted by forming into hydrogen sulfide. Being carried by hydrogen gas, this hydrogen sulfide is introduced into a combustion flame in a combustion chamber 7. Being heated to high temperature in the combustion flame, the sulfur of the hydrogen sulfide is excited and radiates light, this light is introduced into a light measuring part 11 via a transparent window 10 and analyzed, and recorded by a recording needle 13. A pipe from the heating furnace 5 to the combustion chamber 7 is heated by a heater 6 to prevent gas adsorption.
