Abstract

PURPOSE: To determine the temperature in the combustion chamber, directly, automatically, continuously, stably, and accurately, without boring the hole for the temperature measurement to the coke oven, by attaching a thermo-electric thermometer on the brick of the upper slide damper of the coke oven combustion chamber.

CONSTITUTION: For example, a thermo-electric thermometer 10 covered with a heat-resistant, thermal shock resistant, and oxidation resistant protection tube 11, is inserted through the hole of the upper part of the combustion chamber 1, positioned on the upper slide damper brick 5 of the upper horizontal flue 4, and fixed at the top of the furnace. The temperature in the combustion chamber has been determined hitherto either by removing the cover 6 at the top of the chamber 1 and mesuring manually with an optical thermometer 7, or by boring a hole 9 for the temperature determination extending to the vicinity of the combustion chamber 1, as shown in the figures (a) and (b). In contrast with the above procedures, the point on the upper slide damper brick is not exposed directly to flame in spite of its position in the combustion chamber, and is scarcely affected by the effect of the combustion-exhaustion cycle. Furthermore, the average temperature of the whole oven can be estimated.
