CONSTITUTION:An electrode 6 and sodium, mercury, and a rare gas such as xenon with pressure of 100Torr or more for a starting gas are sealed in a luminous tube 1 such as high pressure sodium lamp comprising alumina ceramic. An auxiliary starter 12 comprising a heat-resisting metal lead wire is wound around the outer surface of the luminous tube 1, and heat-resisting metal belts 18 are wound on ends of the luminous tube 1, and the tube 1 is started using a bimetal 11. Thus, the color rendition is improved by increasing the pressure is xenon comparing with conventional lamps, and the characteristics can be stabilized by using the auxiliary starter 12 and warm-keeping belts 18.
