Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An anthracene derivative shown by the formula.
EXAMPLE: 3,7-Diisopropyl-1,5-diisobutyrylanthracene.
USE: Useful for the generation of electromagnetic radiation by chemical reactions, the titled material is dissolved in a solvent, etc. and brought into contact with molecular oxygen in the presence of a base for use. The presence of water in the system weakens the initial luminous strength but prolongs the life of the material. A luminous system satisfying various purposes can be obtained by the adjustment of water content.
PROCESS: Anthracene is dissolved or dispersed in a solvent, e.g., CCl4, CS2, etc. to give a solution, to which anhydrous aluminum chloride is added. The solution is reacted with carboxylic acid chloride to give a compound shown by the formula.
