Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compounds useful as raw materials of herbicides, etc., in an extremely short time, in high yield under atmospheric pressure, by reacting β-trichloromethylpyridines with anhydrous HF in gaseous phase in the presence of a catalyst comprising a fluoride containing a specific metal element.
CONSTITUTION: A β-trichloromethylpyridine derivative of formula I(n is 1W3) e.g. 2-chloro-5-trichloromethylpyridine, is made to react with anhydrous HF in the presence of a catalyst comprising a fluoride containing one or more metal elements selected from Cr, Fe, Ni, Mn, Co and Al, e.g. hydrated chromium trifluoride, hydrated ferrous fluoride, etc. or their mixture, at 200W700°C, pref. 300W500°C, for 1W20sec. in gaseous phase. The objective compound of formula II can be obtained in an yield of as high as 80W95%. Ammonium fluoride may be used as a cocatalyst.
EFFECT: The objective compound can be prepared with a simple reaction, economically, in an industrial scale. The raw materials and the catalyst are easily available at low costs.
