Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce perchloric acid ion and to decrease the volume of solution, by contacting the aqueous solution containing the perchloric acid ion with hydrochloric acid aqueous solution under the existence of metals having reducing power and metal salts or metal oxides able to reduce the perchloric acid ion.
CONSTITUTION: Waste liquid containing perchloric acid produced from atomic energy industry, is reacted with about 30% of perchloric acid water solution at a temperature of 70°C or more under the existence of about 4W5 times mol. of metal having reducing power, such as metallic tin etc., for perchloric acid ion to be reduced and 0.3W0.5 times mol. of metal salt, such as titanium (III)salt etc., or metal oxide, such as molybdenum trioxide etc., able to reduce the perchloric acid ion against the above ion. A large part of perchloric acid ion is reduced and remaining amount of perchloric acid is made small extremely and also, volume reducing treatment is carried out safely without being in danger of explosion.
