Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy in the detection of shape of both non-magnetic and magnetic strips under a high tension with a detector not in contact with the strips, by conducting a detection operation while applying an oscillatory force to the strips by linear motors. CONSTITUTION:A drive source 9 for linear motors 6, 7 is modulated with a signal from a setter 13 to drive the linear motors 6, 7 at an arbitrary frequency. As a result, tensions T2, -T2 occurs in the direction of the lenght of a strip 3 each that the tensions T2, -T2 offset each other. At the same time, a suction force or a repellent force equal to the drive frequency occurs imtermittently in the direction of the thickness of the strip 3 so that the strip 3 starts being oscillated. The amplitude and oscillation frequency in each part in the widthwise direction of the strip are detected by a gap sensor 10 provided such as to be extended in the direction of the width of the strip 3. Detection signals are compared in a comparator 12 with a signal from a reference value operator 14, and a shape signal component is extracted. A signal for the indication and correction of the shape is output from an operator 15.
