Abstract

PURPOSE: To obviate the production of a large amount of fluorides at the welding, and yet make the penetration in an electroslag state shallow and enable the smooth and beautiful weld metal to be obtained by using the respective specified amounts of TiO2, CaF2, SiO2 and CaO as principal components and further limiting the total amount of the former two.
CONSTITUTION: Arrangement is so made that the captioned flux which is composed primarily of TiO2≤60%, CaF2≤35%, SiO2; 10W30%, CaO; 5W20% and is CaF2(%)+1/2TiO2(%)=40W50 and further is 1.6 or less in bulk density. If this product is used, the migration of C from the flux to the weld metal by CO2 gas shielding is supressed as far as possible and further the alloy components of the electrode material may be suppressed low, thus it is advantageous in both productivity and economy.
