Abstract

PURPOSE:To impart effective rust-stabilization effect to weather-resistant steel by coating a treating liquid containing iron oxide, phosphoric acid, a phosphate, a specific inorganic compound (chromic acid, etc.), an organic resin, and silicone resin, etc., as the main compositions on the surface of a weather-resistant steel. CONSTITUTION:A treating liquid containing 3-20% iron oxide (Fe3O4+Fe2O3), 0.1-3% phosphoric acid, 0.1-10% one or more of Fe, Zn, and Cu phosphates, 0.1-5% one or more of an inorganic compound (e.g., nickel oxide) of Ni or Cu, 0.5-10% one or more of chromic acid, zinc chromate, and lead chromate, 3-30% polyvinyl butyral resin, etc., and 0.0001-10% silicone resin, etc., as the main components, together with a solvent and a paint asistant, is coated in a thickness (dry) of 5-100 microns on the surface of a weather-resistant steel, e.g., low- alloy steel, etc. Or, the surface of the steel is coated with the phosphate of Fe, Zn, or Cu in a proportion of 1 mg/cm<2> or less in advance, and then with the treating liquid. Thus, a stabilized rust coated on material suitable for building and the like can be obtained by forming thin film of the treating liquid.
