Abstract

PURPOSE: To cast the casting of superior quality free from any defect in thin-walled and thick-walled parts by subsequently cooling a permanent mold from the lower part thereby controlling the rising speed of the solidification interface of the molten metal in the cavity in inverse proportion to the thickness of each part of the casting.
CONSTITUTION: In forcefully solidifying and casting the casting whose thickness varies continuously or intermittently in the vertical direction, the temperature measuring devices 8a, 8b... provided to the cores of the positions corresponding to thickness changes and the respectively independent heating elements 9a, 9b... provided in correspondence to the temperature measuring devices 8a, 8b... are connected to a temperature lowering rate control mechanism 10 so that the molten metal in the cavity 7 assumes the preset temperature lowering rate according to thickness fluctuations.
