Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the size of an article from the displacing amount of the article in optical non-contact size measurement by disposing an article to be measured between a light emitting unit and the movable article mounted to face oppositely with a photodetector to thereby detect the shield of or transmission of light upon displacement of the movable article.
CONSTITUTION: A light emitting element 9 and a photodetector 10 are mounted oppositely in the vicinity of the end of a U-shaped arm-like movable article 8, and an article 7 to be measured is interposed between the element 9 and the photodetector 10. The aritcle 8 is supported by a piston rod of cylinder 11 and thus reciprocated thereby to thus detect the displaced length of the article by a displacement sensor 14. The displaced output from the sensor 14 is digitally converted by an A/D converter 15. Then, the output from the converter 15 is stored in latches 16, 17 controlled by a control circuit 18, and calculated by a calculator 19, and indicated on a display unit 21 as size measured value. The control circuit 18 detects the change in the optical amount level detected upon shield or transmission of the light by the article 7 as the article 8 moves and applies the displaced length memory instrution to the latches.
