Abstract

PURPOSE: To prolong product service life through dissolution of a part of alkali metal by a method wherein glass substrate which contains alkali metal such as liquid crystal display panel is provided with a required pattern and uncoated part is treated with hydrosilicofluoric acid solution.
CONSTITUTION: A glass substrate for liquid crystal display panel, etc. which contains alkali metal is provided with a desired pattern film using material resistant to acid. The patterned substrate is made to contact hydrosilicofluoric acid solution so that part of alkali metal is dissolved out from uncoated area. This reduces alkali metal concentration up to a depth of several thousand Å from the substrate surface without reducing the function of the glass substrate. As a result, adverse effect due to alkali metal against liquid crystal display panel, etc. can be removed.
