Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title useful substance in one step, by reducing an aliphatic nitrile with hydrogen in the presence of a nickel hydrogenation catalyst at a specific reaction temperature under a low pressure while removing a specific amount of eliminated ammonia from the system within a given time.
CONSTITUTION: An 8W22C aliphatic nitrile, e.g. oleonitrile, is reduced with hydrogen in the presence of a nickel catalyst at 200W230°C while removing 85% or more based on the theoretical amount of eliminated ammonia within 2 hr to give a secondary long-chain aliphatic amine. Preferably, the hydrogen pressure is 0W6 kg/cm2.G, and 0.1W0.5 part by wt. per 100 parts by wt. of the nitrile of the catalyst supported on diatomaceous earth or alumina is used.
