Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an insoluble anode for electrolysis, having excellent electrode characteristic and economic merit as well as excellent durability, by the procedure in which an anticorrosive and conductive intermediate layer is formed on the surface of a Ti base and then a mixed covering layer consisting of β-PbO2 and MnO2 is formed by anodic deposition on the intermediate layer.
CONSTITUTION: A solution containing compounds to be covered as an intermediate layer is coated on the surface of a pretreated Ti plate and then heated in an oxidative or reductive atmosphere, by which the Ti plate is covered with an anticorrosive and conductive intermediate layer consisting of one or more of the mixtures of platinum metals and their oxides, magnetite, or platinum metal oxides and valve metal oxides. Then, it is subjected to an anodic deposition in a Pb-Mn mixed solution to form a mixed layer consisting of β-PbO2 and MnO2 on the intermediate layer. The preferred mixed solution used is the one containing Pb and Mn compounds selected from nitrates, acetates, and sulfamic acid salts.
