Abstract
PURPOSE: For effective and economical phosphorus treatment, continuous contacting strands are progressively moved from an air exposing bath to an anaerobic phosphorus removing bath thereby removing phosphorus in waste water by utilizing microbes.
CONSTITUTION: Continuous strand contaction material having radially thread loops 1 is immersed in waste water 3 in the air exposing bath 2 for a specified period. This causes propagating microbes attached to the contacting material 1 to decompose organic material and to take excessive amount of phosphorus in waste water 3. The contact material 1 is gradually advanced to the anaerobic phosphorus removing bath 2 thehreby causing microbes to discharge taken phosphorus. The supernatant containing such phosphorus is introduced into the phosphorus treating bath 5 to be treated with coagulant for phosphorus removal. Thus, microbes are effectively utilized to provide an efficient and economical means for phosphorus removal from waste water.
