Abstract

PURPOSE: To uniformly charge an object with a large theoretical quantity of electricity in a short time, by exciting a corona discharge electrode by a voltage separate from a main voltage which is applied between the corona discharge electrode and another electrode facing it.
CONSTITUTION: A dust-containing gas introduced into a box 2 through an inlet port 4 in the direction of an arrow 5 is released to the outside through an outlet port 6 in the direction of another arrow 7. A-A' shows a virtual plane between facing electrodes 1, 1'. Strip-shaped corona discharge electrodes 9, 9', ... having projections 8 are vertically supported and insulated at their tops and bottoms on insulators 10, 11 so that the corona discharge electrodes are located on the virtual plane. Every other corona discharge electrodes are connected to each other through common wires 12, 13 so that all the corona discharge electrodes are divided into two groups. An excitation-type corona discharge electrode system 14 is thus formed. A high AC voltage is applied to both the groups of corona discharge electrodes from an exciting power source 15. A main high DC voltage, which is negative as to the grounded facing electrodes 1, 1', is applied to the corona discharge electrode system 14. This results in charging particles to a prescribed level at a very high speed.
