Abstract

PURPOSE: To form metal fine pore layers on electrode surfaces, reduce overvoltage of electrodes and achieve saving of power consumption by coating the mixed solution of metal powder and binding agent on metal electrode bases having openings and sintering the same at the time of producing electrodes for electrolysis of salt, water, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Mixed dispersion of metal powder and binding agent is sprayed to the electrode bases composed of metals having openings such as of net form, grating form or expanded metal form, in such a manner that the base openings are not clogged, after which the dispersion is sintered, whereby the electrode base surfaces are coated with fine pore layers of metals. In forming the porous layers, not only the metal powder alone but also its mixture with powder to become catalytic material such as carbides, nitrides, etc. may be used. Even more, the use of mixture with metal salts and metal oxides and the reduction of such mixture to metal in the sintering are also equally satisfactory. If catalytic material is further added to the porous layers, the overvoltage of the electrodes may be reduced further.
