Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively utilize wastes and provide a buffer material excellent in drainage and resistance to moisture by a method wherein asphalt emulsion or the like and aluminum sulfate are added to fibrous wastes, the mixture is dehydrated, heated under pressure to dry, and cut up into small chips.
CONSTITUTION: Raw material is prepared by adding, for example, 3W7% of asphalt emulsion or the like and a small amount of aluminum sulfate to fibrous wastes which are discharged from a maceration step of used paper, corrugated cardboard, and the like instead of passing through a strainer because they are difficult to macerate. The raw material is flowed into a dehydration metal mold 1, and subjected to vacuum dehydration and simultaneously to cold compression at a pressure of 30W70kg/cm2, yielding a thick plate-shaped body 2. The body 2 is then heated to a temperature of 160W250°C and compressed at a pressure of 30W70kg/cm2 in a compression/heating metal mold 3, to obtain a laminar body 4, which is cut up into small chips to form a buffer material. Thus there can be obtained a buffer material which has good moisture resistance and adequate elasticity and is usable as a filler for mats, buffer material of chair seats, and the like.
