Abstract
PURPOSE:To save consumption of refrigerants, eliminate chipping at the pouring and cast the product of good quality by mating molds with the molding sand mixed with a suitable amount of water then freezing and hardening the inside wall of the product cavity part of the mold. CONSTITUTION:A suitable amount of water is mixed in molding sand which is then packed in a pattern to mold the mold. At this time, a minimum of cold is given to allow only the surface to cool and harden in order to maintain the shape. Thence, the lower mold 2, upper mold 3 and, if necessary, core are mated, after which a refrigerant such as liquid nitrogen is supplied through refrigerant pipe 10 from inlet 6 to the product cavity part 9. The inside wall 11 of the product cavity part 9 is cooled and the ice coated around the molding sand of the inside wall 11 becomes firmer. The refrigerant supplied evaporates and is released to the outside through the flow-off port or riser gate. In this way, the entire region of the inside wall 11 of the product cavity part 9 of the mold 1 is hardened to a desired thickness and freezing temperature, after which molten metal is supplied through the inlet 6 in the similar manner as with conventional methods, whereby casting is done.
