Abstract

PURPOSE:To uniformly harden the whole ring type body, in case of induction heating for hardening the ring type body, by employing the large size and small size heating coils together with, for controlling the time of power supply to the heating coil correspondingly to the rotation of the ring type body. CONSTITUTION:The ring type body 2 to be hardened is placed on the rotor 1, and the large size induction heating coil 3 and the small size induction heating coil 4 are arranged adjacently. The injection hole for the quenching coolant is bored in the small size heating coil 4. The rotor 1 is rotated for heating the ring type body 2 by both of heating coils 3, 4, and the coolant is injected from the coolant injection hole for hardening the ring type body2. With the rotation of the ring type body 2, the hardening makes progress; when the tip of large size heating coil 3 approaches a point just before the heating starting point (a) so far as being not affected by the heating effect of the magnetic flux, it is detected by the detector and current supply to the large size heating coil 3 is interrupted. At the same time, the rotor 1 is decelerated, and the hardening is continued by the small size heating coil 4; and when the small size heating coil 4 approaches the point just before the heating starting point (a), the current supply to the small size heating coil 4 is interrupted, and the rotation of the rotor 1 is stopped.
