Abstract

PURPOSE: To cool off a Joule-heat-formed area in each of wire electrodes and permit growth in allowable working current by spraying atomized machining fluid.
CONSTITUTION: Two of conductors 11 to which wire electrodes 8 move in contact respecrively are placed above and bellow a workpiece 7 and connected to one terminal of a machining power supply. An atomizer 25 is piped 26 to two atomized liquid nozzles 27. Each nozzle 27 extends along the electrode 8 from a conductor 11 to a nozzle 23 and has several blast holes opposed to the electrode 8. A cover 28 is put over an electrolytic tank 5 to shade the atomized liquid nozzles 27. An outlet port 29 opening in the cover 28 is connected by a flexible pipe 30 to a pump 31 and a condensor 32 which is communicated with a liquid discharge tank 15 by a pipe 33. Wire electrodes where Joule heat is generated can be cooled off to increase an allowable machining current.
