Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the size of a device for the same output, by forming projections and depressions on the opposing surfaces of main electrodes and thereby enlarging the surface areas of the main electrodes.
CONSTITUTION: Projections and depressions are formed on the opposing surfaces of main electrodes 1a and 2a. Close switches 25 and 27 and impress the voltage of power supply 24 on the main electrodes from terminals 30 and 31. Then, a glow discharge takes place on the jagged surfaces. A larger electric current can be injected to the opposing surfaces of the main electrodes than the case where the electrode surfaces are flat, and a large electric power can be injected even if the voltage between electrodes 1 and 2 is the same. For this reason, the diameter M of the electrode can be reduced. By this, water and others flowing from flow pipes 20 and 21 can be heated by glow discharge.
