Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve machining efficiency and accuracy by controlling the charging voltage of a condenser, that is used for electric discharge in an electric power unit for a wire-cut electric discharge machining in which a wire electrode is extensively applied, so that machining speed can be increased close to the upper limit. CONSTITUTION:When terminal voltage Ve of a condenser 18 used for electric discharge has reached required steady voltage Vs, a switching element 17 in a charging circuit stops to shift to the ''ON'' position; consequently, the condenser 18 can be no longer charged. The resultant higher electric discharge initiating vostage VD eliminates the danger of wire break-offs even if the conditions of wire-cut electric discharge machining are determined in such a manner that machining speed is close to the limit where wire break-offs will occur. Also the resultant more stable voltage VD provides higher machining accuracy.
