Abstract
PURPOSE:To let double row casting of billets and single casting of slabs to be accomplished by bisecting the driving side and pressing side rolls respectively and coupling the driving side segmented rolls through clutch operation. CONSTITUTION:At the casting of billets, left and right lower rolls 1a, 1b are respectively independently driven in correspondence to the billet drawing speeds and the billets 16 are drawn and straightened between the upper rolls 2a, 2b and lower rolls 1a, 1b which operate parallelly depending upon the thicknesses of the billets. At the casting of slabs, the lower rolls 1a, 1b are coupled through engagement of the clutch 9 provided to the coupling shaft 8. Both are then integrally driven to draw and straghten the slab 17 passing between these rolls and the upper rolls. This method may be readily used commonly for billets and slabs simply through engagement and disengagement operations of the clutch.
