Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain a secure axial seal by a method wherein a seal member is inserted in a groove formed on spiral ends of opposite scroll members, and is pressed axially by a high-pressure fluid to come in contact with a disclike side plate of the scroll members.
CONSTITUTION: A groove 35 with its one end opening to a high-pressure area is formed on ends of spiral units 232, 242 contacting with side plates 231, 241 of opposite scroll members 23, 24, and a seal member 36 same in shape as the ends of the spiral units 232, 242 is inserted in the groove 35. Then, the seal member 36 is pressed axially by a high-pressure fluid introduced through an opening on one end of the groove 35, thereby attaining the axial seal. Now, a wear on a sliding surface of both the scroll members 23, 24 can be minimized thereby, and since the high-pressure fluid introduced into the groove 35 works for press, the structure can be simplified and moreover a secure axial seal is easily obtainable.
