Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve accurate control, by performing the electrode interval control on the basis of the difference between the detected voltage and reference voltage only when the filler wire fed into the arc and the work are either short-circuited or not short-circuited.
CONSTITUTION: For instance, a detected welding voltage from a detector 7 is compared with the reference voltage set by a setting device 8, and the difference is amplified to drive a motor M2, thereby moving a torch 2 in a direction to reduce the output of a comparator 111. At this time, the output of the comparator is controlled by an electrode interval control device 11 only when a normally closed contact 902 of an output relay 901 of a short-circuit detector 9 is closed (when a filler wire 5 fed into an arc column 6 and a work 3 are not short-circuited). When the two are short-circuited, on the other hand, the output relay 901 operates to open the contact, so that the motor M2 stops rotating. If the welding voltage does not indicate the interval of the true electrode 201 and work 3 as a result of short-circuiting, the torch does not move unnecessarily, so that the distance between the two may be always kept constant.
