Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable thick-walled base metals to be welded in all positions by high frequency arcs and heating filler metal by supplying pulse currents of high frequencies to an electrode and supplying low-frequency current to the filler metal.
CONSTITUTION: Pulse-form arc generating currents of several tens to several hundreds Hz are supplied to the electrode 12 of a torch 11. Then, a molten metal pool 14 is created in the thick-walled base metals owing to the generation of pulse arcs 13. Next, while a filler wire 7 is being heated by supplying current of 0 to several tens Hz thereto, the torch 11 is oscillated in the width direction of the weld zone and is run in the direction of the joint, whereby the weld zone is formed. Here, the current supply to the filler wire may be by either commercial AC power source or DC power source.
