Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain title resin foam which emits only a slightly smell of formaldehyde and is useful as heat insulator for housing, by reacting an aq. soln. of urea- formaldehyde initial reaction product with an aq. soln. contg. a hardener, a foaming agent and a material contg. phenolic hydroxyl gp.
CONSTITUTION: Urea is reacted with formalin to obtain an aq. soln. of urea-formaldehyde initial reaction product. If necessary, water is added to the mixture of urea and formalin. This aq. soln. is reacted with an aq. soln. contg. a hardener such as phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, a foaming agent such as alkylaryl sulfonate, a salt of higher fatty acid and a material contg. phenolic hydroxyl gp. such as phenol, alkyl phenol, naphthol, catechol, resorcin, hydroquinone, halogenated phenol. Formaldehyde which is formed during foaming, curing etc., is collected effectively by the material contg. phenolic hydroxyl gp. so that title resin foam can be obtd. which emits only a slightly smell of formaldehyde.
