Abstract

PURPOSE: To compress a signal at a high rate wihtout deteriorating picture quality by converting a picture into a binary picture signal and then by making use of correlations between upper and lower, and right and left picture elements.
CONSTITUTION: A signal from read scanner 201 is coded by A/D converter 202 into a binary signal, which is stored in memory unit 223. Next, switches 203 and 206 are connected to terminals 204 and 206 to code 210 signals of group 1 for two lines at a time, and coded signals are stored in buffer memory unit 211. With switches 203 and 206 connected to terminals 205 and 208, signals of group 2 to coincidence and dissidence signal generating circuit 209. Signals of group 1 are applied to forecasting circuit 801, which forecasts signals between scanning lines, and they are compared 802 with signals of group 2.
