Abstract

PURPOSE: To compress the band of analogue signals by subjecting analogue signals having multi-level amplitude information to a digital band compression processing and converting them to analogue signals after making them of small-redundancy digital signals.
CONSTITUTION: Time series video signals inputted to an input terminal are applied to differential amplifier 12 incorporated in digital band compression processing circuit 2, and difference between these video signals and signals preceding them by one picture element is taken and is converted to digital difference signal, and this signal is compressed and coded by level comparators 11a∼11d and coder 16 and is outputted to terminal 19. Meanwhile, a part of the output is inputted to decoder 14 and is decoded and is added to adder 15 and is added to the output of register 17 and is stored in register 17 for the next picture element processing. D/A converter 18 converts signals of register 17 to analogue signals. These signals are modulated to signals suitable for recording by modulator 4 and are outputted from output terminal 5. Reproducing signals inputted to input terminal 6 are demodulated by demodulator 7 and are converted to A/D signals and are decoded to original signals by decoder 9.
