Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform the coding of picture information quantitized in tetracoded state with good data compression rate, by subjecting to approximate binary processing and run-length coding, and further coding over the details of picture. CONSTITUTION:A video information input section consisting of a scanner 1 scanning an original picture sequentially every picture element and reading in it, quantitizer 2 quantitizing the read-in picture information into tetrastate, and line memory 3 temporarily storing the picture information for one scanning line's share in tetrastate quantization, is provided. This signal passes through a run length coder 5 which executes the 2nd process according to the converting signal and a code converter 4, and also through a changing point detector 6 and a changing point coder 7, a level detection/counter section 8 and an intermediate tone coder 9, and these outputs are applied to an output buffer memory 10. Thus, approximate coding and detailed coding are made in parallel.
