Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst which allows hydrocarbon to reduce SO2 to H2S or element S and which hardly reproduces carbon in reaction process and exhibiting no decrease of activity in the pesence of formed SO2 by incorporating Cu and V into gamma-alumina carrier. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst consists of gamma-alumina carrier which contains Cu and V in an amount of 2-50wt% of the total catalyst, with the wt. ratio of Cu to V being in the range of 1.0-5.0. The catalyst allows hydrocarbon to reduce SO2 to H2S and/or element sulfur. As an example of producing such catalyst, aq. soln. of copper nitrate or copper acetate is prepared, the soln. is mixed with gamma-alumina to cause copper soln. to be impregnated into gamma-alumina, then dried and sintered. Drying temperature is about 80-200 deg.C and sintering temperature is about 300-700 deg.C. Thereafter, the copper-carried gamma-alumina catalyst is similarly treated by solution which contains soluble V cpd. such as ammonium metavanadate through impregnation, drying and sintering.
