Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an automatic device for the removal of soil and peeling of coats from bulbs, comprising a plurality of rotary brushes and a number of pushing plates mounted perpendicularly to an endless belt moving synchronously with the motion of the brushes.
CONSTITUTION: An automatic bulb cleaning device comprising a frame 1, a plurality of brushes 2 rotating to the direction to transfer the bulbs to be cleaned M from the feed side to the outlet side, and an endless belt 6 having a number of pushing plates 2 which push the bulbs M toward the outlet. The endless belt 6 is positioned above the rotary brushes 2, and driven synchronously with the brushes. The bulbs to be cleaned (e.g. onions covered with soil) are fed through an inlet hole 1a on the first rotary brush 2a, transferred to the next brush 2b by the motion of the pushing plate 7, and finally dischraged through the outlet hole 1b. In the course of passing through the device, the bulbs are rotated, cleaned, and peeled by the relative motion of the adjacent rotary brushes. The r.p.m. of the brushes 2 can be adjusted by turning a control handle 5, thereby expanding or contracting the effective diameter of a speed change pulley 4.
