NEW MATERIAL:24-Fluoro-25-hydroxycholestenes of formula I (R1, R2 are H, hydroxyl-protecting groups; the dotted line represents a single or double bond) or their hydroxyl-protected derivatives.
EXAMPLE: 3β-Acetoxy-24-fluoro-25-hydroxycholest-5-ene.
USE: Synthetic intermediates of 24-fluoro-25-hydroxyvitamin D3 that is expected to show the same pharmaceutical activity as that of compounds of vitamin D3 series.
PREPARATION: 3β-Hydroxy-24-fluoro-homochol-5-enic ester of formula II (R3 is alkyl, aryl) is made to react with methylmagnesium halide in an aprotonic and inert solvent by a conventional method to give the compound of formula I.
