Abstract

PURPOSE: To notably increase the arc starting characteristic without spoiling the arc characteristic in the steady arc state, by making variable the rise of welding current in the arc starting time and steady arc time.
CONSTITUTION: This DC arc welding machine is composed of a main DC power supply unit 1 comprising transformer and rectifier, a DC reactor 2, a welding arc 3, an auxiliary DC power supply unit 12 comprising transformer and rectifier, and a switch element 13 to open quickly after striking of arc. In the drawing, 4 is the base metal. By thus constituting the DC arc welding machine, the rise of welding current may be varied in the arc starting time and steady arc time. In this case, as the auxieiary DC power supply unit 12, it is possible to supply such an electric power that the product of maximum output voltage (voltage under no load) and the maximum output current (current when output terminal is short-circuited) may be 12000 VA or more, so that arc may be started instantly. As a result, the arc starting may be realized at a high probability, so that the weld quality in the weld starting part and the welding efficiency may be improved.
