Abstract

PURPOSE: To make penetration amount constant and enable welding of good quality to be done by detecting the base metal temperature near the weld zone and driving and controlling a moving motor thereby simultaneously moving a strap, torch and temperature detector.
CONSTITUTION: The three of a strap 2, torch 3 and temperature detector 5 are so fixed that fixed positions are maintained. A speed controller 6 receives the signal of the base metal surface temperature near the weld zone detected by the temperature detector 5 and converts this to the drive signal of a motor 7. This causes welding to be progressed while letting the strap 2, torch 3 and temperature detector 5 move upward simultaneously. The quantity of heat input to the base metals is controlled by changing the upward moving speed thereof and changing the discharge amount of molten metal from the discharge port 2a provided to the strap 2 according to the surface temperature of the base metals 1. Or the quantity of heat input to the base metals is controlled by increasing or decreasing welding current according to the surface temperature of the base metals.
