Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the height of welding beads constant irrespective of any change in the width of a welding groove by comparing the electric signals of arcs and a reference signal and controlling the speed of welding by the differential signal thereof.
CONSTITUTION: When a groove width (l) becomes wide or when the bottom face 12 of the root pass of arc is low, a molten metal pool 4 assumes a low level of molten metal because a welding wire 5 is melted therein at a fixed amount of melting, and this results in decreased electric current and increased voltage. When the groove width (l) becomes narrow or the bottom face 12 of the root pass of arc becomes high, the welding pool level becomes high, resulting in increased electric current and decreased voltage. These electric signals of the arcs are detected with a welding arc current (or voltage) detector 13 and are compared with the reference signal from a reference signal generator 16 by a differential amplifier 15, and the acceleration-deceleration controlling circuit 27 of the travelling motor 17 of a welding carriage 11 is controlled by the differential signal thereof, whereby the quality of the weld zone is improved.
