Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a large metal bridge or penetration bead, and to form good weld zone, by periodically varying the welding current, and by oscillating the wire so as to traverse the weld line at least once or more times, while the welding current is at high level.
CONSTITUTION: The oscillated tip type torch 10, in which the tip is oscillated by the motor, is moved in the direction (d) along the weld line; while this period, the wire 1 is oscillated so as to draw a circle C by its tip. In the first pass of welding, the wire 1 is oscillated with an amplitude larger than the gap G, and hereby, the molten metal forms a perfect bridge. The wire 1 is oscillated at frequency 1W20Hz which is higher than the conventional method. The welding current is varied within a range of about 0.5W0.7Hz similarly to the conventional method; hereby, the wire feed speed is periodically varied. In the second and following passes of welding, the molten metal is stirred and spread by the oscillation of the wire 1 while the period of high current, and is solidified while next period of low current.
