Abstract

PURPOSE: To lessen manpower for welding work and improve the quality of product by controlling the vertical positions of a welding torch detected with the change in welding voltage or current in such a way as to coinside with preset correct voltage or current in copying with the welding head.
CONSTITUTION: Oscillation width l1 slightly larger than the root gap of a groove 2 is set in an oscillation setter 10 setting the lateral moving periods and oscillation width of a welding torch 3, and the period T is set at T=Tr. The position X of this torch 3 has its origin 0 in the central part of the groove 2, and the oscillation width is -l1/2W+l1/2. In the oscillation of the actual torch T, the torch 2 in the horizontal part in the bottom of the groove 2 is kept at constant height and welding is carried out.
