Abstract

PURPOSE:To preserve food effectively in simple and safe procedures, by connecting an electrochemical deoxidation device to a refrigerator. CONSTITUTION:A d.c. voltage of about 1.2V is applied across the gas diffusion electrode 12 and the oxygen generation electrode 14, and the current flows through the electrodes. The oxygen in the gas diffusing from the gas chamber 17 through the pores of the electrode 12 is selectively reduced at the interface between the electrode 12 and the electrolyte 15 to produce oxygen in the interface between the electrode 14 and the electrolyte 15. The oxygen passes through the electrolyte 15 as bubbles, and is discharged outside the system. According to the operation, only the oxygen in the food container 2 is removed.
