Abstract
PURPOSE: To sort pellets, by separating them from one another, attracting the pellets on the inside surface of a rotary drum, testing the characteristics of the pellets through electrodes reciprocating on the way of conveyance of the pellets, and selectively releasing the attraction of the pellets depending on the results of the test.
CONSTITUTION: Pellets 6 are supplied to an intermittently rotary drum 7 so that the pellets are attracted one by one on vacuum attraction holes 19 and conveyed upward with the rotation of the drum 7. A holder 10 having numerous electrodes 9 is provided on the way of the conveyance of the pellets. The holder 10 reciprocates cynchronously with the rotation of the drum 7 so that the holder comes nearest to the inside surface of the drum at the time of every stoppage of the drum. At that time, the electrodes 9 are thrusted by a constant spring forces on the pellets 6 attracted on the holes 19. The measurement of characteristics of the pellets is finished while the drum 7 is stopped. The pellets are then transferred to a sorting section. Air is selectively blown in through nozzles 14 and the vaccum attraction of the pellets is released depending on the results of the measurement so that the pellets are sorted down into a box 12 or 13. According to this constitution, the damage of the pellets due to their mutual friction is reduced and the sorting speed is raised.
