Abstract

PURPOSE: To fractionally determine the gas including one or more types oxidizing nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, and ferrous oxide with electrolysis, by contacting the gas with the water solution including ferrous compound and taking pH as 1 or less.
CONSTITUTION: The gas including one or more components of oxidation to oxidize nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide and ferrous compound is contacted with the water solution including the ferrous compound and taking pH as 1 or less with the inorganic acid added, the chemical component produced in the solution by this contact is determined to estimate the concentration of one component out of the three components in the gas above. It is desired to use mercury as the detection electrode except for the detection of oxidized component, and the detection is made at the electrode potential noblest among three components. In measuring the gas concentration, gas is introduced with the absorption liquid in the electrolytic vessel having the mercury electrode and the electrodes consisting of mercury or other material as the operation electrodes.
