Abstract

PURPOSE: To promote oxidation reaction rapidly by bringing sulfur ion present in aqueous solution into contact with an oxidative gas over a water-repellent catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The oxidation of S-- ion or HS- ion present in an aqueous solution with an oxidative gas, e.g., oxygen, ozone, etc., is carried out over a water-repellent catalyst, prepared by a hydrophilic catalyst by a water-repelling treatmrnr or by using a water-repellent supporter. Because all surface of the catalyst is not covered with water and the oxidative gas easily reaches the surface of the catalyst and is adsorbed in its active site while the sulfur ion is easily supplied to the catalyst surface, the oxidation reaction at the active site of the catalyst can be rapidly accelerated.
