Abstract

PURPOSE: To deposite the metal on the surface of catalyst by reducing the metal ion effectively and at low cost by the procedure in which metal ion-containing aqueous solution is brought into contact with a reductive gas in the presence of a water- repellent solid catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A solid catalyst, used in the reduction method for metal ions present in aqueous solution, is provided with a water-repellent property by a water- repelling treatment. When the water-repellent solid catalyst is used in a reduction method using a reductive gas, part of the catalyst comes into contact with water but the rest is touched with gas phase to cause the gas to be adsorbed in the active site. On the other hand, even metal ion is supplied to the surface of the catalyst and then subjected to reduction reaction on the active site. Thus, metal is deposited on the surface of the catalyst.
