Abstract

PURPOSE: Sludge from paper making is mechanically dewatered, controlled in the water content by heat treatment and then compressed to produce solid fuel that burns very well.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge supplied from paper making of 70W80% water content is dewatered mechanically with, e.g., filter press, screw press, centrifuge or compressor to 50% water content. Then, the resulting sludge is heat treated in a hot-air drier to 25% water content. The product seems to be completely dry. The sludge is compressed at a pressure over 300kg/cm2 into small balls.
