Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Furan compound of formula I [R1 is alkenyl, alkynyl, formula II (R2 is H, methyl, halogen)].
EXAMPLE: 2,4-Dimethyl-3-allylfuran.
USE: Synthetic intermediate of agricultural chemicals as allethrin and drugs. Especially they can be derived to cyclopentenolone that is useful as an intermediate of insecticide.
PREPARATION: The dehydration of a novel compound of formula V is effected in the presence of a base as powdered glass or acid as mineral acid to give the objective compound of formula I. The product is subjected to chlorination or bromination in an alcohol of R3OH or electrolytic oxidation to form a compound of formula III, followed by reaction with a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid or phenol or mineral acid to give readily cyclopentenolone of formula IV in high yield.
