Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as a disinfectant, economically without using toxic compounds, by reacting a cyanamide carbonate with hexamethylenediamine and then with ammonia.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula III is prepared by (1) reacting a cyanamide carbonate of formula I (R1,2 are 1W10C alkyl; X1,2 are O or S) with hexamethylenediamine, and (2) reacting the resulting hexamethylene bis-N-cyano- O-(or S) alkyliso(thio)urea of formula II (R is 1W10C alkyl; when X is S, R may be alkali metal), directly with ammonia (provided that X is O or S and R is alkyl). When X is S and R is alkali metal, the compound II is alkylated before reacting with ammonia.
