Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:AΔ4,5-galacturonide shown by the formula I (R1 is H, methyl, Na, K, Ba, Ca, Mg, or Sr; R2 is saturated or unsaturated 1W8C alkyl (methyl, ethyl), aryl (e.g., phenyl, P-nitrophenyl); A is O or S) and its methyl ester.
EXAMPLE: Ethyl-α-D-Δ-4,5-thiogalacturonide methyl ester.
USE: Blight prevention of plants. The title compounds can be absrobed effectively in plants, remain in them without decomposition, exhibit antipectinase action, and is harmless.
PROCESS: For example, a compound shown by the formula II, wherein R1 is CH3, is reacted with an alkaline reagent in obsolute methanol to prepare a compound shown by the formula I, wherein R1 is CH3.
