Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce thrust force on the rotor of an axial-flow fluid machine and thus to improve its performance, by communicating a space formed by disk located on the downstream side of labyrinth seal and inner ring of stator blades to the downstream side of outer ring of stator blades through a balance hole.
CONSTITUTION: Space 10 formed by inner ring 6 of stator blades and disk 4 located on the downstream side of labyrinth seal 8 is communicated to the downstream side of outer ring 7 of stator blades through a balance hole 12 formed in the inner ring 6, stator blade 1 and outer ring 7 in the manner extending therethrough. This balance hole 12 consists of a longitudinal hole 12a extending radially of the inner ring 6 and lateral holes 12b, 12c extending perpendicularly to the hole 12a. Plugs 13a, 13b are inserted respectively into the opening of longitudinal hole 12a on the side of labyrinth packing 8 and the opening on the side of casing 9. Here, providing that steam pressure at the inlet and outlet of stator blade 1, in space 10 and at the outlet of rotor blade 2 is respectively P1, P2, P3 and P4, relationship between them is P1>P2>P3>P4, so that thrust force on the rotor 3 can be reduced considerably.
